Introduction

Even though it's small and unassuming, the recorder has musical possibilities like other, supposedly greater,  instruments.  Just imagine - you can play any tune on it.  The only way to do it is by training your fingers, using diffrent charts like a joystick.  The first attempt should be made on a soprano recorder.  But the fingering chart is the same for all sizes of recorder and is also a solid foundation for other instruments as well, particularly other wind instruments.

But, why the recorder?

NOTE:
All recorders in the key of F (like the soprano recorder) will function properly according to the melody and fingering charts on our site. Melodies played on them will simply be in a different key.

Recorders with the German fingering system.

The Baroque System
A recorder has seven holes on the top side and one on the bottom (0).
Holes 6 and 7 are usually doubled,
which is recommended but not necessary.

Th little finger on the left hand is never used.

How to Get a Good Sound
It's easy: whisper "do" or "to" on every tone you play. When it comes to quality of sound, there's no better advice.  Also, a gentle stream of air is required on the lower notes.
